The late Katherine Allday Stubbs was memorialized Monday at Atlanta Primary School, a year after her death. A bench has been placed at the entrance to the school, engraved with her name and years of service.

Prior to teaching music, Katherine and husband Rick managed Allday Department Store – a century-old family business. The store was one of the first in Atlanta and operated in the same building for its entire existence.

“When we closed the store in 2004, we had a discussion about what we wanted our second career to be after retirement. Katherine had got her teaching degree years ago and never used it. So, it was the perfect opportunity,” Rick told the crowd. “She loved this school, and it was her passion.”

In an emotional speech, Rick spoke of Katherine’s love for the students and school. His sons, Drew and Clint, echoed those sentiments. Principal Misty Williams and Superintendent Jason Harris both spoke of Katherine’s dedication to her profession.

The first recipients of the Katherine Stubbs Foundation Scholarships, Landon Moore and Carly Blaydes, were introduced and presented with checks. Both are students at Atlanta High School – the alma mater of both Katherine and her sons.
