Gelena Park North Shore 13-2 vs Duncanville 12-1
The Galena Park North Shore Mustangs hung on at the end and beat the Duncanville Panthers 10-7. It
was a slugfest that literally came down to the last minute with the Panthers falling three points short.
Both defenses were outstanding in this game.
Duncanville seven state championship games with three wins. North Shore with nine appearances in the
title game. Playing against each other five years in a row between 2018 and 2023 with North Shore
winning the first three times and Duncanville the last two. To say this is a matchup is between Texas
High School football bluebloods would be a huge understatement. D’ville was loaded with D-1 talent,
North Shore as well.
The game started out as a slugfest with neither team able to score. D’ville opened the game with a good
drive but North Shore intercepted Jcoryon Rivers pass at the 13-yard line to stop the drive. Neither team
mounted any threat and the first quarter ended 0-0.
The second quarter was pretty much a carbon copy of the first. Both offenses moving the ball but unable
to get it into the endzone. North Shore only able to scratch out 119 total yards of offense, Duncanville a
had a few more in the first 167. No score after two quarters.
At the 4:12 mark in the third quarter North Shore finally connected on a 44-yard pass from Kaleb
Maryland to Jayden Bocard to break the 0-0 tie and give North Shore a 7-0 led. The Mustangs after
holding the Panthers three and out. Went on an eleven play 48-yard drive eating up 5:17 on the clock
and ended with a 27-yard field goal from Daniel Cruz to make the score 10-0 with 10:07 to play in the
fourth.
With 5:34 left in the fourth quarter Jacoryn Rivers hit SMU recruit Zach Turner in the corner of the end
zone on a perfect over the shoulder TD pass. Pulling D’ville within 3 points of North Shore at 10-7. The
Panthers were then able to stop the Mustangs on a third and 6 play, forcing a short 18-yard punt to the
D’ville 30-yard line with 2:47 left in the game.
The Duncanville Panthers made a gallant effort to score late in the fourth quarter completing two critical
passes down in North Shore territory, but it was not to be as a fourth and four pass slipped just off the
hands of a Panther receiver and the Mustangs took over with :38 seconds on the clock.
The offensive MVP was Jaylen Bocard WR for North Shore who had four catches for 79-yards and one
touchdown. The defensive MVP was Tony Guillory DB for North. He had 10 tackles to led the way for the

Richmond Randle 15-0 vs South Oak Cliff 14-1
The Golden Bears avenged last years loss to Richmond Randle beating the Lions 35-19. The SOC defense
was outstanding with three goal line stops in the game. Bringing the title back to Dallas from the
Houston area.
South Oak Cliff (SOC) and Richmond Randle (RR) were a rematch from last year, a classic that RR won 38-
35. SOC coached by the legendary Jasen Todd has had his Golden Bears in the title game in each of the
past five years, winning in 2021 and 2022. Brian Randle, who’s father Richmond Randle HS is named
after has the Lions in the big game for the second year in a row. Both teams were filled with Division one
college recruits.
It did not take long for things to get going. Just 1:22 into the game SOC’s Xaiver Mayfield intercepted a
Tyler Skrabanek pass at the 45-yard line and ran it back 20-yards. Three plays later Jayden Williams hit
Torrin Teague on a 7-yard pass in the end zone for the Golden Bears touchdown. SOC struck again with
2:58 on the clock in the first quarter with a six play 72-yard drive capped off by a Markel Trotter 30-yard
run for TD running the score to 10-0. On the ensuing kickoff Landon Callis returned it 100-yard to get
Randle on the board making the score 14-7. The Golden Bears came right back when Teague scampered
in from 38-yards. The score at the end of the first quarter was 21-7.
With 8:37 to go in the second quarter RR got a stop on fourth and six at their own 34-yard line, but were
unable to capitalize offensively. Later on, in the quarter with 3:14 on the clock Markail Trotter twist,
turned and spun his way from would be tacklers and made it into the end zone for a 40-yard TD to give
the Golden Bears a commanding 28-7 led. Rual Vega hit a 32-yard field goal with :36 on the clock making
the halftime score 28-10.
Just nine seconds into the third quarter is all it took for SOC to add to their led. After the second half
onside kickoff attempt from RR went out of bounds at the Randle 49-yard line and five-yard penalty was
assessed Mikel Trotter went 44-yards on the inside handoff adding to the SOC led now up 35-10. RR
drove the ball down to the SOC 14, but was unable to punch it in. Raul Vega hit on his second field goal
of the game from 31-yards, cutting into the Golden Bears led 35-13 with 1:35 on the clock in the third
quarter.
The SOC defense put any hope the Richmond Randle Lions had to rest when they stopped RR on fourth
and goal with 6:05 to go in the game. After the SOC goal line stand RR was able to force a three and out
and after a bad punt by the Golden Bears Randle drove it 30-yars in five plays and scored on a Landon
Callis 7-yard run. The 2-point conversion attempt was no good. A dominating win by the Golden Bears.
The offensive MVP was Mikail Trotter who ended the day with 143 yards on 11 rushes and 3
touchdowns. The defensive MVP was Baylor Bear recruit middle linebacker Jamarion Phillips.

Smithson Valley 14-1 vs Frisco Lone Star 15-0
The Smithson Valley Rangers defense was outstanding only allowing 6 points to give the Rangers their
second consecutive state title winning 28-6. Comal Smithson Valley made their seventh appearance in
the title game winning the big game last year. For Frisco Lone Star it was their second trip.
A defensive war in the first half with the only two scores coming on field goals from Smithson Valley’s
kicker Trent Amaya. Hitting from 35-yards out in the first quarter and from 27-yards out with just 6
seconds to play in the first half.
Lone Star’s defense was stellar in the first half only allowing the two field goals and turning Rangers
from Smithson Valley away at the goal line early in the first quarter and blocking a field goal early in the
second quarter, but the offense sputtered. It was 6-0 at halftime.
Smithson Valley didn’t waste any time getting into the end zone when Ty Knutson hit Hunter Haug from
39-yards out with 8:26 on the clock in the third quarter, making the score 13-0. Lone Star continued to
struggle offensively unable to score in the third quarter.
Smithson Valley’s defense continued to dominate the Lone Star offense forcing a fumble at the 50-yard
line that SMU DE recruit Hudson Woods ran back to the Lone Star 26-yard line. Five plays later Caleb
Peagler ran it in from 1-yard out. SV went for 2 and made it 21-0. Logan Hornsby then picked off a Trey
Wright pass at the 23-yard line and ran it back 23 yards for another SV fourth quarter score, 28-0.
The Lone Star Rangers finally got on the board late in the fourth when Trey Wright hit Logan Brown on a
32-yard pass, the extra point was blocked.

West Orange Stark 12-3 vs Carthage 15-0
Carthage wins their 11 th state championship 49-21 under head coach Scott Surratt who by most is
considered to be the greatest High School coach ever in Texas. His brilliance as an offensive play caller
has been well established for many years starting when he was the offensive coordinator at Texas High
when they won a state championship in the early 2000’s. However, his ability to get the best out of his
players and coaches should not go unnoticed. If you made a movie about his career thus far and people
did not know who he was, they would say you made it up.
Entering the game Carthage with ten titles under their belt led by legendary head coach Scott Surratt,
Linden-Kildare alumnus. For WOS this was their ninth trip to the title game winning in 1986, 1987, 2015
and 2016. Carthage rolled into this game with four division one top hundred in Texas recruits. #5 RB K.J.
Edwards (A&M), #31 LB Carson Crawford (Colorado), #36 DeQuives Beck LB (A&M) and #88 WR Keymain
Henderson (Miss. St.) all of which had major impact in the game.
It did not take long for the Carthage Bulldogs to get on the board. K.J. Edwards went 87 yards for a
Bulldog TD only 30 seconds into the game. The Bulldogs and Mustangs traded blows throughout the rest
of the first quarter, which ended with Carthage on top 7-0.
With 3:58 left in the second quarter Carthage hit the board again after a ten play 51-yard drive ending in
a K.J. Edwards 8-yard TD run. The drive took 4:55 off the clock. The Bulldog defense then forced a three
and out punt. With 2:38 on the clock Jett Surratt hit Keymain Henderson on a 77-yard post pass over the
middle putting Carthage up 21-0. After another three and out with the ball at the Carthage 49-yard line
WOS faked the punt and threw a pass which fell incomplete giving the Bulldogs the ball with 1:18 on the
clock. Carthage with no timeouts moved the ball down the field in six plays, the drive ending on a 13-
yard pass from Surratt to Bryston Price. Just like that the Bulldogs scored 21 points in 3:47. 167-yard
passing and 166 rushing for 333 total yard in the first half and 28-0 led.
Carthage special teams got in on the scoring action with 9:38 to go in the third quarter when WOS
punted from their 40-yard line. The ball was blocked and then scooped up and ran into the end zone at
the 9-yard line by Tylin Williams making the score 35-0. Later in the quarter the Bulldogs drove it 77-
yards in seven plays ending on a Surratt 2-yard pass to Carson Crawford for the touchdown.
Carthage with several back-ups in the game continued the scoring in the fourth quarter when Benny
Smith broke off a 52-yard run right down the middle of the field. Running the score to 49-0. WOS finally
got on the board with 3:42 to play in the fourth quarter when Kwalen Douglas hit Brian Hernandez on a
six-yard pass making the score 49-7. After a Carthage fumble at the Bulldog 29-yard line Douglas hit
Hernandez on the next play for a 29-yard TD pass, score 49-14. Carthage fumbled the ensuing kickoff at
the 20-yard line. Two plays later Douglas hooked up with Michael Turner for another WOS TD pass.
The offensive MVP was Carthage RB K.J. Edwards and the Defensive MVP was Tylin Williams. Scott
Surratt is the “Texas High School Football Lord of the Rings”!!!!

Kilgore 14-1 vs Stephenville 14-0
This was Stephenville’s seventh appearance in the title game winning in 1993, 1994, 1998, 1999, 2012,
and 2021 and Kilgore’s fourth appearance 2004, 2013, 2024. Winning in 2004. These two teams
certainly not unfamiliar with the playoffs or playing in the state championship game. Stephenville is 15-0
getting a huge win over defending champion Celina in last week’s semifinal game 24-21. On the other
side of the ball Kilgore 14-1 losing only to Carthage in the opening game of the season and then pretty
much coasting through the season with only one close game against Pleasant Grove week three.
Things could not have started worse for Kilgore. The Bulldog QB Kayson Brooks threw an interception at
the 50-yard line on the first series after the opening kickoff and then after the Bulldog defense forced a
turnover on downs Brooks fumbled on the very next play. However, the Kilgore defense held and forced
the Yellow Jackets to attempt a 41-yard field goal which was short. 0-0 after the first quarter.
Four turnovers in the first half, three by Kilgore one being an interception in the end zone on a third and
goal from the 16-yard line killing any possibility of a fourth down attempt or field goal try. Stephenville
lost a fumble on the Kilgore 16-yard line killing that scoring opportunity. Lots of mistakes by both teams.
Kilgore’s defense has been outstanding overcoming the offensive turnovers. No score at halftime.
Stephenville wasted little time getting on the board in the third quarter. Set up by a 28-yard Zyler
McClendon run, The Yellow Jackets QB Trot Jordan hit Adan Jergins in the end zone on a 40-yard TD
pass. Kilgore drove it down the field on the ensuing kickoff but the drive stalled on a sack by the
Stephenville defense. The Bulldogs attempted a 46-yard field goal. However, Eddie Jimenez’s kick was
just wide left. The third quarter ended with the Yellow Jackets clinging to a 7-0 led.
With 9:09 remaining in the fourth quarter Brighton DeVivo kicked a 41-yard field goal that split the
uprights giving Stephenville a 10-0 led. Willis Jackson got his second interception with 3:44 to go in the
fourth quarter to seal a 10-0 Stephenville state championship victory and end any scoring threat by the
Bulldogs. The story of the game was the Yellow Jackets relentless defense forcing a fumble and pulling
down three interceptions, holding the explosive Kilgore offense to just 150 total yards in the game. It is
Stephenville’s eighth state championship.
The offensive MVP was QB Trot Jordan who 78-yards passing throwing for one TD pass, also rushing for
86-yards. The Defensive MVP was linebacker Hudson Butchee who had 10 tackles and an interception.
This is the Stephenville’s first championship since 2021.

yards set up a 37-yard TD pass from Delrick Samuel to Kendray Porter. The 2-point conversion was good

Yoakum 13-2 vs Grandview 13-2
It’s been six years since Grandview made their last appearance in the state championship game and
their third total winning in 2018 and 2019. For Yoakum it’s also their third appearance their first in 1952
and their last in 2016. Two schools that are perianal playoff performers.
Yoakum opened up the game with 71-yard, six play drive, tacking just 2:17 for the Bulldogs to take the
lead on a 21-yard Alexis Hernandez field goal. Seven minutes later the Bulldogs three-star SMU recruit
X’zavier Barnett ran down the Yoakum sideline for a 44-yard TD. Putting Yoakum up 10-0 as the first
quarter came to an end. The Bulldogs had 157 total yards in the first period, 148 on the ground.
The Bulldog offense was even more impressive in the second quarter. Scoring on QB Jace Morales 38-
yard run right up the middle of the Zebra defense with 7:48 on the clock. X’zavier Barnett followed that
TD up with a 59-yard TD run just 2:14 later putting Yoakum up 24-0. With 4:56 left on the clock.
Grandview mounted a fourteen play 75-yard drive taking 4:31 scoring on a Bleu Hubbard one-yard
plunge into the endzone making the halftime score 24-7.
After getting the second half kickoff Grandview fumbled on their third play at Zebra 35-yard line. 2:00
minutes later Barnett scored his third touchdown of the game on a 25-yard run, extending Yoakum’s led
to 31-7 with 8:45 on the clock. With 4:35 Eligah Lopez intercepted a pass and ran it back 31 yards inside
the Grandview 20-yard line. 45 seconds later Barnett scored his 4 th -TD on a 4-Yard run making the score
38-7.
The Zebras did not quit. Mason Landers hit Brady Slinkard on a six-yard pass, the 2-point conversion was
good making the score 38-15. Grandview then recovered the ensuing onside kick, drove it 51-yards
down the field in nine plays and scored on a 5-yard pass from Landers to Slinkard. The 2-point
conversion was unsuccessful bringing the score to 38-21 with 8:49 to play. Yoakum then went on an
eleven play 55-yard drive that took 6:52 off the clock. Barnett got his fifth TD from 4-yards out with 1:56
on the clock. The Zebra’s add a late TD and 2-point conversion with :19 left in the game to make the
final score 45-29.

Shiner 15-0 vs Muenster 13-2
The Muenster Hornets defended their state championship from last year beating the Shiner Comanches
28-0. The 2A division 2 state championship game a rematch from last year, with Muenster winning 36-
29. Two teams very familiar with each other. This was Shiner’s eighth appearance in the big game, their
fourth in the last six years. It’s was the third appearance for Muenster, the second straight.
Muenster totally dominated the first half of play out gaining Shiner 201 to 69. The Hornets got the
scoring started after a Shiner turnover on the Comanche 35-yard line only 41 seconds into the game.
The Hornets capitalized when Muenster QB Casen Carney dash into the endzone from the 4-yard line.
The seven play 35-yard drive took only 2:51.
The Hornets continued the first quarter scoring when Carney hit Tight End Garrett Hess on a ten-yard
throwback pass that totally fooled the Comanche defense. The Muenster offensive line was impressive
to say the least in the first half pushing the Shinner D-Line all over the field.
With 3:24 left in the second quarter Carney found Garrett again when he threw a perfect 34-yard pass
that Garrett caught over his right shoulder in the corner of the endzone to put the Hornets up 21-0 at
halftime.
Muenster received the second half kick; Shiner’s defense was able to hold after a couple of first downs
and force a punt. However, the Comanche defensive success was short lived after a quick three and out
the Hornets drove it 67-yards in ten plays and took 5:59 off the clock, scoring when Carney hit Hess
Garrett for his third TD reception, another perfect pass in the corner of the west endzone putting
Muenster up 28-0 with only 1:07 left in the third quarter.
They say that championships are won with great defense and in the trenches. The Muenster Hornets
proved that theory correct. Totally dominating the line of scrimmage on both side of the ball. Carsen
Carney the Hornet QB won his second straight offensive MVP award in two consecutive trips to the big
game. The head coaches (Brady Carney) son was spectacular again in the big spotlight, finishing the
game with 162-yards passing, 79-rushing, 3-TD passes and 1-TD rushing. The defensive MVP was
linebacker Rhett Walterscheid who had 10 tackles leading the Hornet defensive shutout.

Joaquin 11-4 vs Hamilton 12-2
Joaquin and Hamilton both making their first appearance in the state championship game. Both were
ready to roll, not intimidated by the magnitude of the game or playing at AT&T stadium. In a game
where stats usually tell the story, they certainly did not this year. Joaquin possessed the ball for 35:08
minutes of the game to Hamilton’s 12:52. Joaquin had 313 total yards, Hamilton had 218. However,
Hamilton out scored the Rams 21-7 to win their first ever state championship.
Joaquin got the scoring started with a 14 play 65-yard drive ending in a one-yard TD run by the Rams QB
Trenton Runnels, which chewed up 7:33 on the clock. The Bulldogs answered with a 13 play 64-yard
drive ending on a 13-yard pass from QB Carson Roberts to Devin Eanes who juggled it at the 2-yard line
but was able to maintain possession for the TD.
Hamilton forced a turnover on downs with 9:31 on the clock in the second quarter and then mounted a
10 play 54-yard drive ending in a 5-yard Halston Haile TD run. The Bulldogs were able to hold Joaquin
and take a 14-7 lead into halftime.
Hamilton received the second half kick and quickly got behind the eight ball after a 15-yard penalty and
then a ten-yard sack, but were able to overcome the 25-yard setback with a third down 36-yard pass
from Roberts to Oliver Summers. Haile scored 1:19 later on a one-yard plunge into the endzone. The
Bulldog offensive line was big and impressive all night, protecting the quarterback and opening holes for
the backs to run through.
The Slot “T” offense that Joaquin runs is tough to defend. It is methodical and filled with tons of
misdirection. The Bulldog defense was disciplined and tenacious in their approach defending against the
“slow death by a thousand cuts” that type of offense can cause.
Congratulations to Offensive MVP Halston Haile who had 97 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns,
Defensive MVP Bret Bauman who had 15 tackles and Hamilton head coach Ryan Marwitz.
